An OS from 3 years ago doesn’t know how computers from the future work! New hardware has to use the latest OS, because only the latest OS knows about the new hardware. Hopefully you will in any case find that we add such interesting and useful features to Dorico 5 that you will decide to buy the update when it arrives, in which case you won’t need to worry, as the current version of the application will always be supported on the current version of macOS.įorcing owners of new hardware to use only the latest OS instead of one that is more stable or supported by more software.Įach OS contains code that controls known hardware. But given that Dorico 4 is already fully native on the new Apple silicon architecture, there’s good reason to think that this current version will run on future versions of macOS for at least the next few years. We have no more insight as to what future versions of macOS might be like, or when they might withdraw certain features of the operating system that Dorico relies upon. I’m running macOS 13 Ventura on my Mac here, and I can still run Dorico 3.5 on this machine with no problems. Extending this forward, therefore, it’s unlikely that we would release any more updates for Dorico 4 after the release of Dorico 5.īut so far there has also been no compelling reason to do this. So, for example, we never released an update to Dorico 3.1 after Dorico 3.5 was released, and I can’t imagine us releasing an update for Dorico 3.5 now that Dorico 4 is the current version. Although it’s not impossible that we could do it, to date we have never released an update to a previous generation of Dorico after the release of the new generation.
